The Mediasite Desktop Recorder may require additional hardware to facilitate recording.  Depending on your resources and computer platform, you will need to set up a web camera for video acquisition, and a microphone to acquire the audio portion of your lecture/narrative. 

Several Windows machines are available pre-equipped with a built-in web camera and microphone. Apple iMac desktop and laptop computers are equipped with the iSight camera and microphones.  You may consider using an external web camera and a headset microphone to ensure higher quality recordings and greater convenience. The proximity of a headset microphone would provide greater clarity when recording your voice delivery or lecture.

To listen to published Mediasite sessions, you should consider having a desktop speaker or speakers to better hear your recorded audio upon playback.  Some desktop and laptop computers have integrated speakers for basic playback of audio. External speakers could provide greater clarity and fidelity of your recorded audio playback. Use caution when using external speakers to "monitor live" your spoken delivery. You don't want your microphone to re-record the playback from your speakers or cause the microphone to feed-back through the speakers.

Please consider reviewing the Best Practices for Using My Mediasite Desktop Recorder (MDR) before committing to your lecture or presentation capture project. It’s a good practice to ensure your recording hardware is properly connected and configured for the Mediasite Desktop Recorder.  You’ll need to verify your computer hardware and software configuration is correct and that the Mediasite Desktop Recorder recognizes the equipment.
