With Course Copy, you can copy all or part of the content from one course and move it over to another course. A copied course is no longer tied to the original and changes in the original course will not appear in the copied course. A course copy is not an exact duplicate of the original course; this process simply copies the content files from one course shell into another, so adjustments will need to be made to the new course after the copy is complete.

Our best practice is to use a Master Template Course to copy to a current or future course shell, and not to copy from semester to semester. To learn more and request a Master Template Course, go to the Help Desk website at .

Step-by-Step guide

  1. First, delete any Course Menu items that will no longer be necessary after the course copy. For example, if the course you are copying from already has a link to the Discussion Board you should delete the Discussions link in the new course.

  2. Be sure to begin this step from within the old course that you would like to copy content from.

On your course site, under the Control Panel, click Packages and Utilities, and then click Course Copy

  3. In the Select Copy Type section, select the the type of copy you wish to complete.

  4. In the Select Copy Options section, type the ID of the course where you want to copy the materials, or select Browse to choose from a list of your courses.

  5. Under Select Course Materials, select the items from the current course that you want to copy to the new one. (Click to expand the thumbnail.)

  6. In the Course Files section, select the third option to Copy links and copies of the content (include entire course home folder). You can then Calculate Size to determine the size of your course file package.

  7. In the Enrollments section, be sure to leave Include Enrollments in Copy unchecked.

Copying enrollments does not copy grades or other user records

  8. When you are finished, click Submit.

  9. If the copy process has been sent to the server without errors you should get a success message on the Packages and Utilities screen. This is only a queuing notification. You will be informed via your account e-mail address once the actual copying is completed.

Do not attempt another copy before receiving the e-mail confirmation!

  10. Upon receiving the e-mail notification, you should log into Blackboard and verify that your content was copied correctly.
