Problem

How are Blackboard courses created and students enrolled?

Solution

Instructors must use the Class Dashboard in My Missouri State to request their Blackboard courses. Students are enrolled automatically when they register for the course in Banner.

Problem

Can I use Blackboard course content used by an instructor in another course?

Solution

Instructors who wish to use a course developed by another instructor should collaborate with that instructor. It is recommended the instructor of the original course export the course content to a zip file or flash drive and provide the course file for the requesting instructor to import into their new course. For help on how to archive or export/import a course package, go to How to Export Your Course or How to Import a Course Package

Problem

Can't I just copy a Blackboard course into another course?

Solution
Yes, courses can also be copied to other courses if the faculty member is listed as Instructor in both courses by following the process found at How to Copy a Course. Be aware that using the Course Copy feature over several semesters may create duplicate files and broken link structures. For this reason, it is recommended to use the How to Export Your Course and then How to Import a Course Package instead. Master Course Templates are highly recommended for instructors who teach the same course frequently.

Problem

Who can see and access my Blackboard course?

Solution

All Blackboard courses are password protected and faculty and students only have access to the courses they are associated with, either as an "Instructor" role or a "Student" role.

The instructor of the course is granted access to the course when the department sets the instructor as the Instructor of Record in Banner. Courses may have more than one Instructor of Record.

Problem

When will the course be made available to students?

Solution

Courses are unavailable to students when they are created. It is the instructor's responsibility to make courses courses available to students prior to the first day of the semester.

Problem

How long will students be able to see the content after the semester ends?

Solution

It is the responsibility of the instructor to make courses unavailable to students at the end of the semester. If they do not do so, students will still have access to content and exam materials in the Blackboard system.

Problem

How do I create an archive of my course material?

Solution
It is recommended you create an archive of your course at the end of each semester. Archived courses include Grade Center history and user interactions/content. If you need help on how to archive or export/import a course, go to How to Archive a Course
