In light of a severe Java vulnerability in Mac OS X, we recommend that Mac users switch to Firefox for their web browser and install the NoScript plugin. Because this vulnerability exploits Java, it works on all operating systems and all web browsers, but both Microsoft Windows and Linux have patched the vulnerability. Apple remains unpatched and therefore an additional security tool is necessary. If you are using these directions because you need to access Java-based web resources, then you should not turn off Java in your web browser. NoScript will allow you to access/block Java on a page-by-page basis, with the default that most pages are blocked and you must approve them one-by-one. If you turn off Java in your web browser, you will be unable to access Java resources at all. Get FirefoxIf you do not already have Firefox installed on your computer, you can do so by visiting http://getfirefox.com. Install NoScriptOnce you have Firefox installed and open, you need to install the NoScript plugin. We recommend you do this from Mozilla's plugin repository. Just click on the Add to Firefox button to install NoScript. Restart Firefox when prompted to do so. Whitelist Missouri StateNow that NoScript is installed, we need to configure it for Missouri State University. First, open the Firefox Addons window from the Tools menu at the top of your screen.
Select NoScript from the list of Addons and click on Preferences. Your list may look different than this.
Select the Whitelist tab in the NoScript Options window and type the following into the Address of web site: box. Once you have typed the address, click the button labeled Allow.
