Questions

  • How do I get access to Argos?
    • If you only want to run reports, then just send a request for Argos Report Viewer access to qdug@missouristate.edu.  If you want to write your own reports, the first step is to register for the Argos Report Writing class.  You'll get your Argos access when you attend the class.  You can also register for the Argos Datablock Design class and get your access then.  The recommended way is to take the report writing class first.

  • How do I request access to data?
    • You must have your supervisor send a request to qdug@missouristate.edu that you be given query access to the data you need.  If the request is for "live" Banner data, then the business need must be included.  This request will be forwarded to the data owner of the data requested.  The data owner will then approve or disapprove the request.  When an approval is made, then the access to the data will be granted.

  • When I try to run Argos on a machine running Windows XP, nothing happens.  What's wrong?
    • If you're using Windows XP, then you probably don't have Administrative rights on the computer that you're using, so the ActiveX control won't install. Contact the Computer Services Help Desk to have someone with the proper authority to install it for you. Once the ActiveX control is installed, you will be able to run Argos normally.

The paragraph that answers the question, "When I try to get into Argos, nothing happens.  What's wrong?" is just a little confusing. First, it should probably start off with the Vista fix, so that those folks can get up and running without needing to call for support. More importantly, the phrase "The install process is only required on the first use" at the end seems to imply that, if you're running Vista, you'll only have to run IE as an Administrator the first time. This isn't the case. Every time you run Argos in Vista, you'll have to run IE as an Admin.

For your perusal, here's some alternative wording:

In order to run Argos, you have to install a small program called an ActiveX control. Internet Explorer should display a small yellow bar prompting you to install the ActiveX control. If not, one of the following should solve your problem:

If you are on the Windows Vista operating system,  right-click on the Internet Explorer icon, and select "Run As Administrator" from the menu. Then, go back to My Missouri State and try to access Argos again. Every time you need to run Argos, you will need to run Internet Explorer as an Administrator.

If the above instructions don't work for you, or if you're using Windows XP, then you probably don't have Administrative rights on the computer that you're using, so the ActiveX control won't install. Contact the Computer Services Help Desk to have someone with the proper authority to install it for you. Once the ActiveX control is installed, you will be able to run Argos normally.
