Prioritizing Information Sharing

I hadn't realized until today that I had failed to update the news here since last August, though a great deal has changed since then. I've integrated both Google Analytics and Woopra with the Experts wiki, tracking traffic on both a broad scale and who is actually using the wiki moment-to-moment through live analysis. We've had a couple of point upgrades for Confluence, some password changes, and a variety of other things that demand documentation and step-by-step guides (particular changing passwords, since Atlassian doesn't even tell you how to change the DB password). And we've also had a lot of good conversations with people about Confluence as the University community comes even more on board with this fantastic project.

Our traffic has increased by 1-200% in the last few months, rising steadily and surprising me quite a bit. We've had inquiries from departments about moving their entire website and/or internal set(s) of documentation to the wiki, and it has all caught me off-guard. When I get focused on just creating documentation and keeping the system up-to-date, it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture.

This Web 2.0 application is really a great service for people in a variety of ways that are easily overlooked, and I think that's something that bears further discussion and consideration. I can't follow that line of thought too far this afternoon due to time constraints, but expect me to come back to it next week with some pretty exciting possibilities and plans. I think there's more we could be doing with this.
