Finding the computer name is quick and simple. It can be very helpful for many support reasons.

For quick access, press Windows Key + Pause Break. This should show the computer's system properties in any version of Windows.

Step-by-step guide

Windows 10

  1. Right click the Start button.
  2. Left click System.

Windows 8

  1. Go to the Charm bar on the right.
  2. Click Settings.

  3. Then click PC info.

  4. Your computer name will be listed under "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings"

Windows Vista/7

  1. Left click on the Start Menu.
  2. Right click on Computer.
  3. Select Properties.

  4. This window will show you the Computer name

    You may also get to this screen through: Control Panel > System

Windows XP

To find the computer name in Windows XP, click on the Start menu, right-click on My Computer, and click Properties. There should be a Computer Name tab in the system Properties window.
