DreamSpark is a website offered by Microsoft which allows Missouri State students to download software for free or at a discount. Available software includes current operating systems, developer tools, server software, and various applications.

All students at Missouri State University have access to DreamSpark Standard, which provides a limited amount of DreamSpark-licensed software for academic use.

Students enrolled in at least one class during the current semester in the Colleges of Business, Health and Human Services, or Natural and Applied Sciences will have access to DreamSpark Premium, as will faculty. DreamSpark Premium provides a much wider range of Microsoft software for academic use. License keys will not be mailed to you but will be stored under your name at Kivuto. Be sure to copy the product key using Snipping Tool or PrintScreen or on paper because the archive lasts for only a short period of time, typically 22 days.  If you lose your license keys, please check both of those locations before requesting additional licenses. Standard Microsoft licensing applies for all downloads. For many titles you will only be able to download them once. For this reason we highly recommend that you backup your downloads immediately.You should burn each application you download to DVD. The ISO image downloads require you to burn them to DVD before they can be used. 

Kivuto,formerly known as E-Academy, provides a storefront for staff, faculty, and graduate assistants at Missouri State University to purchase software with a Work-At-Home license. This company is a separate entity from Missouri State University, so you will need to contact them directly for assistance if you need any help. If you do not have access to Kivuto but feel you should, or if you are having trouble ordering software from their site, you can contact Kivuto by email, phone, or regular mail. Step-by-step guide

Purchasing Software for Faculty and Staff

  1. Visit the Help Desk website.
  2. Click Get Software.


  3. Click Software for Home.


  4. In the table for Microsoft Software and Operating Systems, click Kivuto.


  5. Enter your BearPassID and password, and click Log in.


  6. Under the Faculty/Staff tab, select the software that you want to purchase.


  7. Select the language and platform (if applicable) that you need, then click Add to Cart.


  8. Verify your purchases and click Check Out


  9. On the license agreement page, if you agree to the terms and conditions type your Username and, in the Signature box, type Your Name.


  10. Fill out the billing page with your billing information, and then click Next on the succeeding pages after verifying information.
  11. After completing your order you are ready to download your software. See Downloading Software for Faculty, Staff, and Students for steps. 

Purchasing Software for Students 

  1. Visit the Help Desk website.
  2. Click Get Software.


  3. Click Software for Home.


  4. In the table for Microsoft Software and Operating Systems, click Dreamspark.


  5. Enter your BearPassID and password, and click Log in.


  6. Select the software you want to download from the menu. For this guide, we will be downloading the operating system Windows 8.


    The programs and operating systems offered will differ depending on which college(s) you take classes.



  7. Select the version you will need. Click Add To Cart for the version you want. For this guide we will be selecting Microsoft Windows 8 Professional 32/64-bit (English).


  8. Make sure your order is correct, and then click Check Out.


  9. Verify that your order information is correct, then click Proceed with Order.


  10. After Completing your Order you are ready to download your software. See Downloading Software for Faculty, Staff, and Students for steps.

Downloading Software for Faculty, Staff, and Students

  1. This page will have all of your order information. It is important to take a screenshot or print this page for your records. This information will also be emailed to you. After you are done with this page, click Start Download.


  2. Click on the blue Download SDM button. If you already have Dreamspark's Secure Download Manager, you may skip to step 4.


  3. Choose to save the file. Once it is downloaded, open it and walk through the installation.
  4. After the Secure Download Manager (SDM) is installed, click on the other blue link from step 8, labeled Download .SDX.
  5. Open this file using the SDM software that you just installed. If you saved the file instead of opening it, you will be able to find it in your Downloads folder. Simply double-click the file and SDM should open.


  6. You may have multiple options to download. Decide which one you want to download, and click the green button labeled Start Download.
  7. Once the file is finished, click Launch. This will take you to where the file was downloaded on your computer. At this point you will either have a .exe or a .iso file. If you have a .exe file, double-click the file to start the installation. If you have a .iso file (an Operating System), you will need to continue to the next step.
  8. Open the folder and right-click on the image (.iso) file and select Burn disc image. This will allow you to burn your software to a DVD to be installed.
