Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Check Your System Requirements

Click here to check the System Requirements for web conferencing.

Later versions of Internet Explorer are not supported with Collaborate. Mozilla Firefox and Chrome are suggested browsers.

Before you begin your first Collaborate session, ensure the following:

  • You are using the computer on which you will attend your session.
  • Your computer is connected to the Internet and has a stable, reliable connection.
  • You have a microphone and speakers, preferably a headset to take full advantage of the collaborative capabilities during your session. Please check with the organization or instructor hosting the session if they will be using these features.
  • You have the appropriate permissions to save files to your computer. (You must be an Administrator on the computer.)

Step 2: Download and Configure Web Conferencing in the Configuration Room

When you click on the Collaborate Session link either through Blackboard, or through the link sent via email, you will be prompted to download the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher.

These steps to download and install the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher will depend on which browser you are using and where you save the install file. This install is a one-time process for each of your own computers you use Collaborate on. However, in a computer lab environment, participants will need to download and run the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher every time they log in and access Collaborate.

Troubleshooting

If you can't open the .collab file,  download the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher again.

Still can't get into your session? Please read troubleshooting help tips or the complete Blackboard Collaborate Launcher Quick Reference Guide.

You may need to:

  1. Confirm the Launcher is Installed.
  2. Create a File Association.
  3. Clear the Launcher's Java Cache.
  4. Reinstall the Launcher.
