To connect to wireless using Windows 7, follow the steps below.

Which Network to Use:

MSU: Living Off Campus
MSU Open: Visiting in the PSU, Welcome Center, or Library
MSU ResNet: Living On Campus
MSU Sponsored: Departmental Guest Speaker Access (Must get key from Networking and Telecommunication)

 

Step-by-step guide

Setting Up Your Windows 7 Wireless Automatically

  1. Click the network status icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.


  2. Select the network you would like to connect to, then click Connect.



  3. Type your BearPass Login (abc123) and BearPass Password, then click OK.


  4. Click Connect to accept the security certificate.


  5. Allow a few moments for your computer to establish the WiFi and Internet connections.

Setting Up Your Windows 7 Wireless Manually

This section of the guide is for a manual setup. The following guide should be used if you cannot connect automatically (shown above).

  1. Click the network status icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.


  2. Click Open Network and Sharing Center.


  3. Click Manage wireless networks in the upper left-hand corner of your window.


  4. Click Add.


  5. Click Manually create a network profile.


  6. Enter in the following information:
    • Network Name: MSU
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption Type: AES
    Then click Next.


  7. Click Change connection settings.


  8. Click Security and verify these settings:
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise

    • Encryption Type: AES

    • Authentication Mode: PEAP

    Then click Settings.


  9. Make the following two changes:
    1. Check Validate the server certificate.
    2. Check DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA. If it's not available, use Internet Explorer to visit the following page to download and install it: https://www.digicert.com/digicert-root-certificates.htm.
    Then click Configure.


  10. Uncheck the check box.


  11. Click OK three times and close once.
  12. Click the pop up to provide additional information.

    If the pop up window does not show up, please follow these instructions:

    1. Open the network sharing center. Right click on the network you are trying to connect and click on "Properties"

    2. The "MSU Wireless Network Properties" will come up. Click on "Advanced Settings."

    3.Check on the "Enable single sign on for this network" box and Click  "OK". The pop up in step number 12 should then appear.

     



  13. Type your BearPass Login and Password,and click OK.


  14. If prompted, click Connect to accept the security certificate.


  15. Allow a few moments for your computer to establish the WiFi and Internet connections.

You have successfully connected to MSU.
