Missouri State faculty, staff, and students can now connect using Skype for Business for instant messaging, video meetings, and screen sharing. Skype for Business is available on Mac and PC, as well as mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.
While Skype for Business is available on both Mac and PC, the programs are different, and Mac users will have fewer features than PC users. For more information on the differences between the two programs, see Microsoft’s comparison table.
To use Skype for Business, users must first download and install the program from the Office 365 portal.
Skype for Business is included with Microsoft Office 2016. All university-owned devices should be updated to Microsoft Office 2016 by your department or Computer Services IT staff. The process outlined below is for personally-owned devices only.
How to Install Skype for Business on a Personal Computer
The instructions below are for installing Skype for Business on a personal laptop or desktop computer running Windows or macOS.
Under the Install Office apps drop-down menu, select Other install options.
Skype for Business is located in the left menu of the Other Installs page. Click the Skype for Business link.
The program will recognize what type of operating system you have (Mac or Windows) and show the appropriate download option. Click Install to download the Skype for Business installer.
Open the file once it downloads and follow the on-screen instructions.
You will log in to Skype for Business the same way you log in to Office 365: BearPassLogin@missouristate.edu or BearPassLogin@live.missouristate.edu and your BearPass Password.
Installing Skype for Business on a Mobile Device
To install Skype for Business on a smart phone or tablet, simply open your device’s application store (App Store on iOS, Google Play Store on Android, Windows App Store on Windows) and search for “Skype for Business.” This is different from personal Skype, so look for the app icon with a blue “S” on a while background to make sure you’re downloading Skype for Business.
