Problem

We've recently discovered that recent security update KB3087985 for Windows XML core services that was released to Windows 7 Clients on August 11, 2015 is affecting the Endpoint Protection client during a full scan causing the full scan to stall. The results of the scan stalling have varied by client but include:

  • Delays or timeouts in accessing files directly via a Network File Share (Ex for Missouri State: Bear1 or Sabrina, etc.)
  • Any files downloaded via Internet Explorer are getting stuck on a Security Scan during the download process.
  • Issues with browsing from Internet Explorer.
  • Instability in other applications that rely on a network file share to function.

For Support Specialist, we notice event errors in the System Log of an affected workstation: “A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the MsMpSvc Service." Event 7011.

Solution

Microsoft has release an official update via Windows Updates but can be manually installed from the following KB article if needed: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3092627
