Access to the VPN is assigned to those who require it for a university business or academic function. To request access, send an email to InformationSecurity@missouristate.edu. Include a short description of the academic or business reason you are requesting VPN access.
To use the Passport VPN, you cannot already be connected to the Missouri State network. The VPN is designed to allow those not currently on the network a secure connection to the network.
The VPN's purpose is accomplished by encrypting the data before it leaves the computer and decrypting it upon arrival at the target destination. The reverse is done for data moving in the opposite direction. In this way, private and sensitive data remain secure. As a secure convenience to Missouri State University students, staff, and faculty, many resources can be accessed off campus via the associated VPN. These include file servers, internal websites, and workstations.
This is to set up your Virtual Private Network (VPN) which allows you to access your computer, file shares, and internal websites off campus.
This installation method targets Mac OSX running the latest version of Oracle Java. If any issues are encountered during this process, please notify the Computer Services Helpdesk at firstname.lastname@example.org to expedite updates to this article.

You can now access the same campus resources you could if your computer were physically located on campus.
Once the VPN is up and running, you may delete the installation dmg file from your computer, as it is no longer needed.
Once the connection is established you can connect to a server by clicking the finder. In the menu at the top click Go and click the very last option Connect to Server. There you can type a server name such as \\trace.missouristate.edu. It will ask for your credentials and you will want to enter your Bear Pass login and password.
